Simon Kingberg on what is and isn’t Star Wars canon

Could the Star Wars Spin-Offs Include the Expanded Universe? ask IGN

“The canon is the canon, and the canon is the 6 films that exist,” says Simon Kingberg, producer of Star Wars VII while chatting to IGN. “It’s all about wanting to honour the original movies and yet wanting to take a step forward too and tell a new story.”

Apparently this doesn’t stop Simon from working on an Extended Universe project but treating that as separate.

I’m not really surprised they have defined Star Wars canon as the ‘original’ six movies and they seem to have decided to ‘reboot’ the universe from the close of episode VI.

I suspect some fans will be outraged.
