Marshmallow Pie The Cat Superstar, Book 1 and Marshmallow Pie The Cat Superstar on TV, Book 2
A review by Emma Streeton
Marshmallow Marmaduke Vanilla-Bean Sugar-Pie Fluffington-Fitz-Noodle is a big, fluffy and grumpy cat who thinks of himself as the most fabulous cat in the world. He loves the simple life: lazing in the sun, eating Shrimp Crunchies and annoying Buster, the dog downstairs. Marshmallow’s owner, Amelia Lime, has grand plans to turn Marshmallow Pie into a cat superstar and he is more than happy to comply. How hard can it be? He is already a celebrity in his own mind!
The story
This delightful series follows Amelia and Marshmallow Pie as they embark on the journey to stardom. The story is told though Marshmallow Pie himself. My bookworms loved the idea of the cat telling the story and in my opinion Vulliamy’s use of the “cat voice” is very well done.
Marshmallow Pie becomes a great companion to lonely Amelia. His often aloof and pompous nature is very true to how cats behave.
COUGH. EMMA IS A DOG PERSON. COUGH. – EDITOR
Nevertheless it is impossible not to fall in love with this fluff ball and his mischievous antics. My bookworms have certainly signed themselves up as fans of both Marshmallow Pie and Amelia. They devoured these books in no time at all and really enjoyed the black and white illustrations that bring the story to life. There were laughs aplenty and I loved that it was told in a way that my seven year old could easily understand, increasing her enjoyment.
The verdict
This is the start of a charming new series that primary aged children will love. We have already revisited these stories a number of times already and needless to say my bookworms are eager for more Marshmallow Pie adventures. A great read with characters that the reader is sure to love. I hope there are more to come!
Read Marshmallow Pie if you like cranky cats kobolds like Oswald from Starfell: Willow Moss and the Forgotten Tale.
