SAN ANTONIO, Texas ñ LoneStarCon 3, the 71st World Science Fiction Convention (“Worldcon”), is delighted to announce the LoneStarCon 3 Pulp-O-Mizer Competition. The aim of the competition is to design a pulp magazine-style cover promoting LoneStarCon 3, using the Pulp-O-Mizer web application.

Designed by artist Bradley W. Schenck, the Pulp-O-Mizer is a customizable pulp magazine cover generator. Launched in early February, 2013, it has since gone viral, with over 160,000 hits showing up on Google after just two weeks. The free application has been featured in online coverage at Tor.com, IO9, CNet, Boing Boing, and many other sites. Authors including Jo Walton, David Gerrold, F. Paul Wilson, and Mary Robinette Kowal are also getting in on the act and creating new artwork with Pulp-O-Mizer, celebrating the spirit of rockets, robots and ray guns.

The Pulp-O-Mizer Competition is open to all LoneStarCon 3 members and staff, excepting staff working at the Divisional level or in the Chair’s Office. All entries must be submitted by Friday, May 31, 2013 and the winning design will be featured in the LoneStarCon 3 Souvenir Book, a full-color publication distributed to all convention members. Shortlisted entries will also be featured in an exhibition display at the convention.

Full terms and information on how to enter can be found on the LoneStarCon 3 website. This includes instructions on how to unlock a unique LoneStarCon 3 cover option which all competition members need to use in their entries.

LoneStarCon 3 is excited to be joining up with Bradley W. Schenck for this competition, and to have him on the judging panel. Subject to work commitments, Schenk also hopes to take part in LoneStarCon 3 in person, and to talk about his love of retro futures, as featured in his ongoing “Retropolis” project.
