Larry Van Duynhoven feels good when heads blow up

Larry van DuynhovenLarry Van Duynhoven said ‘When you see a head explode, you feel good about it’. Nalini Haynes interviews award-winning prosthetics and SFX artist Larry in the above podcast. This podcast is also available on Spotify, iTunes and Castbox.

Larry Van Duynhoven’s work most recently won ‘Best Death’ Award at UK’s FrightFest for an axe murder in Australian-made film The Furies. Larry has a passion for horror films and a wealth of experience working at all budget levels. He’s worked on horror TV series Preacher, Cargo with Martin Freeman, Hacksaw Ridge with Mel Gibson, Jennifer Kent’s The Nightingale, Sundance Film Festival hit (2017) Berlin Syndrome; Blumhouse’s Upgrade and Netflix hit series Glitch. You will be able to see Larry’s work next in The Whistleblower while he’s working on Mortal Kombat.

He’s a down to earth Aussie who ran away from the trade his father imposed (wall tiling). Then the police investigated him — a few times — for having parts of bodies in the back of his truck.

Larry chats to Nalini about his ‘best death’, working with Mel Gibson and Martin Freeman, and much more in a gore-filled interview.

You can find Larry Van Duynhoven and photos of his work on Instagram. And his Pinterest boards give some ideas as to his interests and research.
