David Nickle features on Pseudopod‘s latest offering. LISTEN HERE.
Pseudopod says:
“My piece of advice: look seriously at all the candidates in the next election wherever you live, because your vote counts.”
DAVID NICKLE is a Bram Stoker award winning author of several novels and numerous short stories–most recently, “The ‘Geisters” from ChiZine. He is also the head of the Toronto City Hall Press Gallery, where he has worked the last four years covering Toronto Mayor Rob Ford. His story collection Knife Fight and Other Struggles from ChiZine Publicationsis coming out as the podcast goes live, on October 21.
This was my first foray into Pseudopod‘s podcast. Pacing and intonation of the storytelling evoked images of Cecil from Welcome to Nightvale. This was a little distracting but, as I don’t usually like horror, the familiarity comforted me while I waited for the twist. At the end, I discovered ‘Knife Fight’ is the type of horror that I enjoy: political commentary and social subversion with a point. And an edge.
I currently face a state election Down Under next month while hoping and praying that the next federal election (nearly 2 years away) will see the back of the bumbling Tony Abbott. In this context, the final lines of the Knife fight and Pseudopod’s comments afterwards are oh-so-poignant. Listen. Enjoy.
