Maureen McCarthy launched Isobelle Carmody’s Greylands at Readings Carlton while Isobelle launched Maureen’s novel, The Convent. This launch presentation is available in MP4 (video) and MP3 (audio only).
This launch was conducted as a conversation between Maureen and Isobelle with readings from their novels. Due to technical difficulties there are a couple of interruptions, but most of Isobelle’s conversation with Maureen McCarthy is here.
The blurb for Isobelle Carmody’s Greylands on Ford Street’s website says:
A haunting fable from the acclaimed author of The Gathering and Green Monkey Dreams.
After a long, long moment, the sound faded, though the air seemed still to throb with the awful anguish of it.
‘What was that?’ he whispered.
One wakeful night in the aftermath of his mother’s death, Jack enters a land devoid of colour or scent. Here he meets the tragic laughing beast and Alice, a strange girl with a secret.
Will Jack escape before the terrifying wolvers find him?
Or is he destined to be trapped in the Greylands forever?
Only the cats know …
The Convent sounded interesting: it’s part fiction but based on historical fact. I’m intrigued and I’d love to read it myself. It sounds like the Convent would appeal to readers who like contemporary fiction written by authors like Dianne Blacklock, Marian Keyes and a whole raft of other non-genre authors whose novels I enjoy.
