Home (2015)

Home 2015A review by CJ Dee

Oh (Parsons) is a member of the Boov race. They are adept at running from planet to planet so they can avoid their enemies. The latest planet to be colonised by the Boov is Earth. During the colonisation, Tip (Rihanna) avoids the resettlement procedure with her cat Pig but is separated from her mother.

Oh makes yet another mistake, this time endangering the Boov’s new colony. He is hunted by his own people and soon meets up with Tip. After a rocky start they become friends on the quest to reunite Tip with her mother.

Jim Parsons is a remarkable actor. His voice talents in Home are remarkable and the facial features Oh exhibits must be based on Parsons’ own.<

Oh is a fun and quirky character with solid backup from street-smart Tip. The standout, though, is the cat, Pig. This could be the crazy cat lady in me talking, but more often than not animal sidekicks steal any scene they are in and Pig is a perfect example of this.

The plot of the story adds a new twist to an old formula, but it does work. Kids of all ages will enjoy the fun, the sentiment and the colour-changing, gelatinous aliens. <

Overall Home is a thoroughly enjoyable computer-animated film and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a bit of silly fun.

‘I too has to break pee. Or as you calls it ‘number one’. We also has the ‘number two’. And the ‘number three’. It is a good thing I does not has to go the ‘number three’. It would not be safe for you. We only does it once a year. I would not call it a holiday, but you does need to take the day off.’
