Her Royal Highness sits upon her throne

Her Royal Highness sits upon her throne, condescending to acknowledge us mere mortals and our bookish concerns.

Her Royal Highness Smokey presents

[Preen] My regal self condescends to acknowledge that Dark Matter has received the following books in the past week.

The first item to arrive was Inside HBO’s Game of Thrones.  The squealing and squeeing that erupted from my servant when this arrived was thoroughly unpleasant, offending my delicate ears.

The Iron King

My servant was somewhat confused when The Iron King arrived as the picture was the same as this, but the text on the cover says “‘The original Game of Thrones’; George R. R. Martin.”  The difference is because she received a review copy; the publisher obviously wants to get reviewers’ attention.  Well, it succeeded.  It got the servant’s attention.  It was originally written in French in the 1950s and was George R R Martin’s inspiration for Game of Thrones.  For more information about the author, Maurice Druon, see Wikipedia here and for more information about the Accursed Kings, the series of 7 novels that inspired Game of Thrones see this wikipedia entry.

Out for Blood by Kristen Painter is one of a series that Evie Kendall has been reviewing.  These YA vampire books always trigger off my bloodlust; I can feel my catty fangs descend and my soul grow dark…

[there, there kitty.  You know you won’t even eat raw meat –

HSSSSSSSSSSSS how DARE you?!

I beg your pardon, Majesty.]

Time Between Us

Time Between Us by Tamara Ireland Stone is a YA book along similar lines to the Time Traveller’s Wife.  The servant found the Time Traveller’s Wife a wonderful and yet gut-wrenching read.  As that was before I bestowed my glorious presence upon her home, it’s really not worth mentioning.  [glare]

Red Country by Joe Abercrombie is the end result of the research he was conducting when my servant interviewed him a while ago.  During this interview Joe said,

‘I’m planning and researching, I’ll have you know. Alright, I’m watching the complete Deadwood, Unforgiven, The Outlaw Josey Wales, Ride With The Devil, playing Red Dead Redemption a lot and reading a lot of classic and revisionist westerns. Can you guess what sort of book I’m planning to write?’

Well, Red Country seems to be the answer.  Joe is going to talk to my servant again in a few weeks; I’m planning to gate crash the interview and upstage everyone, just like I did during Trudi Canavan’s interview.
