Chad Ruble hacked a Microsoft Kinect (the motion sensor for the XBox) so his mum, whose disability prevents her from reading, can send emails. This video shows Chad’s mum using the kinect and icons to send a simple email.
The Techcrunch article was short and sweet, but it got me thinking. If Microsoft are smart, they’ll hire this innovative hacker and take this technological development further. Using the kinect system and new software with pictures of grocery items, people like Ms Ruble could ‘write’ a shopping list to email to an agency or supermarket, increasing their independence.
This could be a wonderful beginning.
