Ghostbusters!
When scientists Ray Stantz (Aykroyd), Peter Venkman (Murray) and Egon Spengler (Ramis) are evicted from the university at which they worked, they decide to go into business for themselves — busting ghosts!
Their first client, Dana Barrett (Weaver), lives in spook central and is plagued by the minion of Gozer, a Mesopotamian/Sumerian/Hittite god from 6,000 BC. When Dana is possessed by the minion to summon Gozer it is up to the Ghostbusters to save the cellist and save the world.
Ghostbusters is very high on the list of my all-time favourite movies. So when I discovered I had the opportunity to see Ghostbusters on the big screen? Yes, please! The 30th anniversary screening was an event I couldn’t afford to miss.
Experiencing Ghostbusters on the big screen was a phenomenal experience.
He slimed him!
They came, they saw, they kicked its ASS!
There was no Dana, only Zuul! And the chick was TOAST(ed marshmallow chunks falling all over New York City)!
The comedy in Ghostbusters is classic brilliance. Harold Ramis and Dan Aykroyd wrote a phenomenal script that, judging by the varied ages within the audience, still entertains today.
Bill Murray is a comic genius. Never before have I seen a comedic actor who is so consistently outstanding.
The special effects are dated but that’s to be expected from a movie made 30 years ago. The real treasures in Ghostbusters are the hilarious dialogue; all-round wonderful performances from a great cast; and the plot that remains engaging to this day.
With this year marking the 30th anniversary of this classic horror–comedy there are sure to be plenty more screenings. If you have the opportunity to catch Ghostbusters on the big screen for the first time or to revisit the gang, this reviewer could not endorse the experience enough.
And remember, dear readers, when someone asks you if you’re a god, you say “Yes!”
