Late last year, Games Workshop tried to claim ownership of space marines in literature in spite of a rich history predating GW by over 40 years! After the community backlash, GW removed its company facebook page including the post GW put up defending its decision to claim ownership of space marines. I found this in my twitter feed:
The only GW-related pages left on Facebook seem to be the interest page (not a company page), Games Workshop North America, Games Workshop Warhammer World (a specific store in England), and similar pages belonging to specific branches.
So. TAKE ON THE SCIENCE FICTION COMMUNITY IF YOU DARE.
CLAIM OWNERSHIP OF SCIENCE FICTION’S BELOVED SPACE MARINES
ONLY
IF
YOU’RE
EXTREMELY BRAVE.
😛
GW still has a website; the meta-description in Google says, “Games Workshop make the best model soldiers in the world.” That may be or may not be; at least I can’t see any overt claim to ownership of space marines in science fiction.

Space marines legitimately owned by Games Workshop
At 1pm Melbourne time today I’ll be interviewing M.C.A. Hogarth about her career as a writer and the space marine scandal; any questions for her?

A homage to the greats of science fiction who wrote about space marines before Games Workshop was founded
