Femme cosplay – the self-objectification issue

Categories:

This female Thor is wearing much less than the male version.  I’ve seen a number of articles on the internet about women and cosplay, particularly discussing self-objectification.  Self-objectification is where a woman wears something sexy to make herself a sex object: this is never more an issue when taking a male costume and subverting it into a female form like this one where she’s wearing so much less than the male Thor.

Feminism is about choice but even so, I’m having difficulty deciding what my approach as Dark Matter fanzine should be to this kind of cosplay.  Any suggestions?
