Too cool for school: fairy tales

Dark Matter Zine patrons have expressed an interest in what I’m learning as I wend my way through my Professional Writing and Editing degree. For ‘writing YA’ (not the name of the subject but it SHOULD be), these were the readings for fairy tales week:

Epic Reads infogram of YA Fairytale Retellings (Epic Reads’s post is currently down so I’m linking to another page crediting Epic Reads)

Carol Ann Duffy – Little Red Cap — a poem about youth, innocence and revenge. It even has linked explanations for metaphors.

Kate Forsyth interviews Margo Lanagan

Margo Lanagan – extract from Sea Hearts. What?! You haven’t read THE WHOLE BOOK yet?!? What is WRONG??? Go and read it now.

So, if you’re too cool for school, just do my weekly reading for me.
