It was my birthday on Friday and I’m (technically) on holidays from uni although it feels as though I haven’t had a break.
As a sort of compromise, I cracked a book I’ve been wanting to read for years. Words of Radiance by Brandon Sanderson. It’s the sequel to Way of Kings, the first Sanderson book I ever read and one of the first review books sent to me by a publisher way back in 2010. I loved Sanderson’s detailed world-building: his societies, societal norms and mores, the unique flora and fauna.
Although I received a review copy several months ago (Words of Radiance was published in March 2014), its immense size put me off reading it until now. Not that I didn’t want to read it, it’s just that I’m studying full-time and tackling a 1080-page book didn’t seem like a bright idea.
Yesterday, as part of my post-birthday mid-holiday celebrations, I cracked the book. It barely fits in the desktop magnifier. Turning the pages was a challenge.
But I was determined.
Now I’m about 1/3 of the way through, in spite of forcing myself to do some housework and other Dark Matter-y tasks.
Today I was distracted from my reading by this most awesome of birthday presents arriving on my doorstep:
C J Dee, that most awesome of reviewers, bought me the perfect gift. The sonic screwdriver is that of my favourite doctor.
AND THE DALEK.
OMG THE DALEK.
I didn’t know these existed.
OMG THE POTATO HEAD DALEK.
How awesome is this???
THANK YOU C J!!!
