This entry is part 5 of 31 in the series #AuthorsForFireys firefighting fundraiser series

Jodi McAlister

This podcast features Jodi McAlister who is the author of the young adult urban fantasy Valentine series. She is also a Lecturer of Writing and Literature at Deakin University and is donating items for the #AuthorsForFireys auction to raise money for the fire fighting effort here in Australia. The full set of #AuthorsForFireys interviews will be here as soon as they are published.

The rules and the items Jodi McAlister is putting up for auction

I’m threading together my #AuthorsForFireys items for ease of access. Remember, this is how it works!

1) Bid on the *original* post with that item.
2) Bid in $AUD
3) Auction ends Sat 11 Jan at 11pm
4) Highest bidder wins!
5) Send proof of your donation.
6) Get your loot.

ITEM 1: a personalised, signed set of the Valentine series, plus both of the promotional enamel pins. Auction ends 11pm January 11 AEST. All proceeds to the CFA. Bids in AUD below. I’ll cover postage. #AuthorsForFireys

ITEM 2: I’ll provide detailed feedback on the first 5000 words of your manuscript, as well as your synopsis. OR For PhD students/ECRs in the arts: I’ll read a draft article or book chapter and provide feedback to help you get it ready to publish. #AuthorsForFireys

ITEM 3: I’ll name a cameo character in the very silly soap opera book I’m writing after you (and you can be pretty much guaranteed something bananapants will happen to you). Auction ends 11pm January 11 AEST. All proceeds to the CFA. Bids in AUD below. #AuthorsForFireys

Share a bed to help bushfire refugees

In her interview, Jodi mentions the Share a bed website where people can register to offer shelter for bushfire refugees and bushfire refugees can find a place to stay.

Update: new donation information.

As originally wanted by @EmilyGale and @NovaWeetman, this fundraiser is now officially for ALL fire services in Australia. The official Authors For Fireys Website will be updated accordingly. Winning bidders or auctioning authors can nominate funds to the fire service of their choice. #AuthorsForFireys.

Want to know if this is legit?

Yes, it is legit. The whole community — Australian and global — is rallying together to support Australian firefighters, wildlife recuse and bushfire victims. Here are some reports on this effort.

Fundraiser information from Emily Gale

The #AuthorsForFireys auction will take place only on Twitter from Monday 6th January, ending at 11pm AEST on Saturday 11th January. Scores of authors, illustrators and book industry people will host their own individual auction under the hashtag #AuthorsForFireys and bids will take place on each tweet. At the end, the highest bidder will donate the amount directly to the firefighters fund. After you send proof of donation, authors and artists will dispatch the goods/services.

Items up for auction include signed books, original illustrations, one-off fan-art and craft, unique gifts and manuscript critiques for writers.

There is a supporting site, explaining how it works, at this address: https://authorsforfireys.wixsite.com/website

Given the $18million fundraiser for the NSW RFS this week, proceeds from this auction will be directed to the CFA (Victoria).

This is part of the fire fighting fundraising series along with Zana Fraillon’s interview and Narelle Warren’s interview.
