I’m taking part in #AuthorsForFireys – an initiative started by Emily Gale. Authors are doing online auctions to support the CFA (Country Fire Authority). So many people I know have been fighting fires or have evacuated from fires. My parents are near Albury and have their bags packed, ready to leave if needed.

Carly Findlay’s offers

I have four auction packs, and am conducting the auction on Twitter. My handle is @carlyfindlay and you can leave your bid in $AU below the tweet. The auction ends on 11 January.

Offer one

The direct link to this auction is here: https://twitter.com/carlyfindlay/status/1214032677587668992?s=21

Pack one: my memoir Say Hello and Growing Up African in Australia (which I’ve contributed to), and a one hour writing mentoring session with me by phone or in person (within the Melbourne tram network).
Bids from pack one will go to the Country Fire Authority. https://www.cfa.vic.gov.au/about/supporting-cfa

Offer two

Pack two: Say Hello, a Jubly-Umph pin and a one hour author or schools talk within Melbourne (within the tram network).

Bids from pack two will go to Council for Intellectual Disability who have created amazing easy read bushfire resources for disabled people.

The books will be personally signed.

Bidding ends 11 January. The winning bidders will make their donations direct to CFA and NSW CID.

The books and pin for packs one and two were generously donated by Collins Booksellers Moonee Ponds.

Offer three

You can have a wine with me and #FestivalMum in Melbourne or Albury. You’ll also get a copy of Say Hello, signed by Mum and I. Winning bid will go to the CFA (Country Fire Authority).

Offer four

I’ve added a copy of Growing Up Disabled in Australia to my auction.

I am editing the anthology. I’ll try to get as many contributor signatures as I can muster.

Contributors include Senator Jordon Steele-John, Jessica Walton, Isis Holt Dion Beasley Gayle Kennedy, Sarah Firth, Sam Drummond, El Gibbs, Astrid Edwards and more.

The book will be available after June.

Winning bid will go to Council for Intellectual Disability for their fire resources.

Want to know if this is legit?

Yes, it is legit. The whole community — Australian and global — is rallying together to support Australian firefighters, wildlife rescue and bushfire victims. Here are some reports on this effort.

Fundraiser information from Emily Gale

The #AuthorsForFireys auction will take place only on Twitter from Monday 6th January, ending at 11pm AEST on Saturday 11th January. Scores of authors, illustrators and book industry people will host their own individual auction under the hashtag #AuthorsForFireys and bids will take place on each tweet. At the end, the highest bidder donates the amount directly to the firefighters fund. After receiving proof of donation, the author or artist will dispatch goods/services or make arrangements for delivery.

As originally wanted by @EmilyGale and @NovaWeetman, this fundraiser is now officially for ALL fire services in Australia. The official Authors For Fireys Website will be updated accordingly. Winning bidders or auctioning authors can nominate funds to the fire service of their choice.

Items up for auction include signed books, original illustrations, one-off fan-art and craft, unique gifts and manuscript critiques for writers.

There is a supporting site, explaining how it works, at this address: https://authorsforfireys.wixsite.com/website.
