A review by Emma Streeton
Our favourite characters are back in Art Time!, Hot Dog series #8. This time Hotdog, Kev and Lizzie are entering an art contest at the local museum. But, as always, something most unexpected happens setting our trio off on another adventure. This time they are on the case of a stolen painting. But not just any painting. The most famous painting in the world – the ‘Llama Lisa’! It is up to Hotdog and his friends to chase down the robber. Will they save the day?
Bookworm reaction
My oldest bookworm happily whisked this book out of my hands the second it arrived. She is a huge fan of anything by Anh Do and has really been enjoying the Hotdog series. She wasted no time in getting stuck in and I could hear her laughing through her bedroom door. Needless to say Anh Do (and Hotdog) has done it again – zero disappointment and a whole lot of fun.
The verdict
The story was captivating and exciting. Who doesn’t love a crime to solve? There were numerous occasions when my book worm appeared from her room to share with me funny moments in the story. We laughed out loud together. Trust me, she wasn’t the only one who was entertained by these snippets.
This is such a fabulously fun series for not only the target audience! If you have a small person in your life, or newly independent readers, this is a perfect book to engage them. I have recommended the Hotdog series to a number of friends who have difficulty getting their kids interested in books and reading. The feedback has been positive and this is another fab book to pass on.
Anh Do’s books are online here and here. But if your bookstore (online or bricks-and-mortar) doesn’t stock his books? Find a new store!
