Amazon blocks sale of new J K Rowling novel

J K Rowling, Harry Potter author, has a new novel coming out from publisher Hachette.

Amazon, the international book-selling giant, has been having an ongoing row with Hachette publishing, taking action to disadvantage Hachette authors while encouraging sales of books from other publishing companies.

Amazon has removed pre-order buttons from a number of Hachette books, delaying expected delivery dates of Hachette books by weeks in comparison with competitors and even citing Hachette books as ‘currently unavailable’, sources say.

J K Rowling’s new detective novel is now in the firing line, currently listed as unavailable.

Although Amazon is an international giant, recently its stocks have dropped sharply while sales reports have apparently been ‘disappointing’.

Perhaps there is some light at the end of the tunnel? With Amazon in a shaky position, competitors expanding their offerings and the publishing industry going through upheaval, I hope Amazon sees sense and improves its relations with customers, authors, publishers and its own staff.
